Region

Play style

The broad groups come first. Vanilla servers run the game as Facepunch ships it; modded servers change the rules; community servers are player-run. Specialists sit alongside them: PvE, roleplay, primitive, build, aim training, zombie, battlefield, creative and tutorial.

Group size

The beginner list is for a first wipe. The team-size lists count only servers that publish a limit: solo, duo and trio. A server without a stated limit does not appear there, however busy it is.

Gather rate

Built from what servers put in their own names: 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x and 10x and above. If a server does not advertise a rate, we do not put it in a rate list.

Region

EU, US and AU. Most of the population gathers in Europe in the evening; the US fills later; Australia peaks while Europe sleeps. The busiest server in a region changes with the clock.

Wipes and status

Just wiped shows servers that have come back up recently. Wiping today and the wipe schedule calendar look ahead. Official servers are Facepunch's own. The full population list holds every public server, and the status check tells you if one is up. For the headline figure, see how many people play Rust.

Questions

Q.1Where do the counts next to each list come from?

They are read from the live server survey and refreshed every five minutes. The number is how many public servers match that list's rule at the moment you load the page, not a stored total. A list can shrink or grow through the day as servers restart or drop off. Where a count is unavailable, we say so rather than fill the gap.

Q.2Why is a server I know missing from a list?

Each list has a rule, and a server appears only if its published name, tags or settings match it. A busy server with no stated team limit will not appear on the solo, duo or trio lists, and one that does not advertise a gather rate stays out of the rate lists. Use the full population list to look for it across every public server.

Q.3Can a server appear in several lists at once?

Yes. A 2x European server with a trio limit fits the 2x, EU and trio lists, and its live count will show on each. The lists are independent views of the same population, so overlapping members are expected and not a mistake. The full list is the one place where each server appears exactly once.

Q.4Which list should I open first?

Start with the one rule that matters most to you, usually group size if you play with a fixed team, otherwise play style. Then check region, because an evening server for you may be running at a quiet hour. Opening the top server on any list takes you to its page, with the current population, wipe timer and settings.
